Your Name (2016)
i felt like the world was ending this morning. i woke up at 7 to get to the clinic early (first come first serve) and wasnt able to be down there until 9. they told me if i want a better chance i need to show up at 7:45 next time. i felt so stupid.
cloudy and tired the rest of the day. i think i have been too busy this week. sadly had to miss a show tonight my friends were in, i need a break. we watched a movie at home instead, still nice. but i feel like i have abandoned people.
how are you supposed to prioritize? i feel like i always make the wrong decision in retrospect. all the fun i have feels like i dont deserve it, when i no longer have energy for things that matter more.
i saw Hadestown twice this week because i wanted to see it with too many different people, and seeing it with them was the goal more than anything. but it ended up just being a lot on me. good proshot though, see it if you can!!! limited time!!!
we watched Your Name (2016) tonight. i have seen it before, and Weathering With You (2019) by the same studio, but wanted to rewatch both as the third movie in the thematic trilogy is out, Suzume (2022) and my partner hasn't seen them. Weathering with You is what I'm looking forward to more, but I enjoy both.
I don't think the English dub is that great, but it's watchable. there are a couple moments where characters use the wrong formality which are completely lost in the dub (and probably the subtitles too) since Japanese has a more complex system there.

On a second watch, the story wasn't as engaging, but i still have a lot of respect for how well its put together. i love the reveal that it isn't just a body swap, she is three years in the past. the slight time misalignment allows for so many interesting moments, like her traveling to meet him but it's before he has met her in his time. and the back and forth between the destroyed and destroyed town. i almost wish they never meet again at the end so you dont get a conclusion on whether it all actually happened and the timeline was actually saved. its a really clever idea that brings in some time-travel antics without having to answer any of the hard questions.
you know me i love ghosts. i like that she is a sort of ghost, since she dies in the original timeline, who is haunting him. but we start with her perspective. lots of interesting things to absorb and possibly use.
