average city apartment drama happening

the saga continues of what the fuck is going on in the apartment next to us.

the context: a couple months ago, we started hearing fighting next to us. whatever. obnoxious when it kept us up but thats what you get for living in apartments, its gonna happen. wake up one of these times to discover they have thrown things out the window. we debate calling the police, but we dont trust them not to just make things worse.

near the end of july, im coming home alone from an event. its around midnight. there's police in the hallway, and the neighbors across the hall are at their door. they dont say anything to me and i get ready for bed. about 1am i hear a crash of glass. i dont get to sleep anytime soon. they threw something through the window this time. clearly it was after the police left.

more than normal amount of concern now. i ask the apartment manager, she tells me they are in the process of eviction. maintenance puts plywood over the window.

cut to early august. it happens again, top pane of the same window. what the hell is going on?

this whole time too, i have heard a dog whining sometimes, assumed it was probably someone else, that's normal. one day i see their door open, dog runs out, definitely the puppy i've heard whining. it barks at me a bunch in the hallway and no one bothers to call it back inside.

that night, i have weird dreams. very realistic anxiety dreams about actually knowing them, or my friends knowing them, and everyone thinks im a bad person for wanting these people evicted. so real that when i wake up i have to spend a few minutes realizing it was fake, sorting out the facts from what my brain made up.

the puppy is still there, crying much louder today. im very concerned for the dog. i am also slightly concerned that the people who were evicted are now squatting in the communal spaces. i feel very guilty for not liking them and wanting them gone.
